Why Your Business Needs A Life Administration Day | Nicole Victory Design

Why your business needs a life administration day

You know all those pesky little things that have to be taken care of that aren’t really a big deal until they pile up? Going to the bank, car maintenance, bookkeeping, bill paying. Each task isn’t really a big deal until they're put off, over and over, and the next thing you know there’s an insurmountable mountain of boring tasks to take care of that you just don’t want to deal with. My husband has a name for it. Life administration. See how I’m tackling these tasks once a week to keep my business and life organized.

Why your business needs a life administration day

You know all those pesky little things that have to be taken care of that aren’t really a big deal until they pile up? Going to the bank, car maintenance, bookkeeping, bill paying. Each task isn’t really a big deal until they’re put off, over and over, and the next thing you know there’s an insurmountable mountain of boring tasks to take care of that you just don’t want to deal with.

My husband has a name for it. Life administration.

All those silly things that no one wants to do but must be done. Letting everything pile up creates clutter in your mind and distracts you from running your business.

For example, If I don’t have a plan and schedule for paying bills, grocery shopping, and cleaning the house, it creeps into my daily life and clutters up my mind.

As a business owner, I already have a million things running around in my head and worrying about what I’m going to cook for dinner and if I paid the credit card bill is nothing but a pesky life administration distraction!

I’ve decided to declutter my to-do list and create more space in my mind by scheduling my life administration on Fridays.

Brilliant I say!

How to Set Up a Life Administration Day To Keep Your Business and Life Organized

Here’s my method for scheduling time to get the annoying stuff off my plate and organize not only my business but my life!

I’m tackling a different set of these boring tasks each Friday with the end of month Fridays set aside for bill paying and finances, budgeting, and goal evaluation for the month. A sort of schedule within a schedule. A financial Friday!

Here’s the break down of how I’m scheduling these days:

The first thing I do is schedule each Friday in my Day Designer: Fridays are typically a little slower for me, and I find removing the nagging life administration tasks off my to-do list will help me go into the weekend with a clear head. I also hate paying bills at the last minute, so my financial Fridays give me a large time buffer for dealing with bills.

What I’m knocking out on these Life Administration days:

BUSINESS DUTIES

  • Post office
  • Bank
  • Bookkeeping
  • Back up computer and phone
  • Backup my website
  • Financial evaluation, check-in, and budgeting
  • Blog content writing
  • Social media content

PERSONAL

  • Appointments
  • General errands
  • Water and groom indoor plants. Yes, I am a crazy plant lady, and I have plants everywhere. They make me happy.
  • Catch up on personal emails to friends
  • Schedule monthly reading goal
  • Schedule social time with friends and husband

WELLNESS AND FITNESS

  • Check in with myself and analyze my goals for the week.
  • Evaluate fitness progress and goals
  • Meal planning. I’m going to attempt to do this for the month and write out 4 weekly shopping lists. This may be a little ambitious, but I like the idea of only having to do this once a month

How I’m Keeping Track:

I enjoy making paper lists, so I’m going to assign tasks for each Friday in my Day Designer. I like keeping the anxiety-inducing life administration list separate from my day-to-day business running list which will hopefully reduce my stress level. I know many business owners that organize their schedules and lists with Trello, Google Calendar, and other online tools. However, there’s something about physically drawing a line through a to-do that just excites the OCD turbo organization mind of mine. Why deny myself this little pleasure? I find my paper to do list in my Day Designer works best for me.

I’ll be updating this post as I dive into this new and what I think is a rather exciting organizational goal. I may have to make some adjustments and either add or remove some tasks, but this will keep me accountable and super organized!
